We are called to be Bible built, not Bible based or Bible founded. If we are to describe ourselves as Bible based then the option is there for us to mix a little of this and that with what we do, it could become like making a soup where the base is the water but the flaviour comes from whatever our personal soup taste is. Likewise the idea of being Bible founded allows for the idea that we can found things on the Bible but what we build on top of the foundations by way of content and structure is up to our own design ideas. Neither of these go far enough in demonstrating the extent to which we rely on the Word of God for what we are to say and do and be as church. The idea of being Bible built reminds us that any construction (what we build), renovation (what we alter) and extension (how we move forward) and indeed what all this is based and founded on is to be guided, planned and determined by what we find in scripture.
