Harvest Day 2

*Updated*

Highlights of today have been:

Driving on the wrong side of the road. It's funny how the besetting sin of my early driving (hugging the kerb) has returned in the pressure of figuring out how to do things in reverse. Junctions in the dark and snow have also been a bit of a challenge. Matthew said 'good boy Daddy' to me after one excursion today (not sure what Alison thinks, can't figure out what she is saying from the crash position).

Hanging out at Harvest before the 5pm Saturday evening service. Everyone has been so friendly and willing to accomodate me on their schedule. It's an amazing set up here with ministries for pretty much anything you can imagine, it is just a great expression of intentional discipleship through ministry and investment in one another across the church.

I was reading in Nehemiah recently about a bunch of guys working hard to repair Jerusalem and in chapter 3 it gives the names of some guys who worked hard to repair one of the cities gates. In verse 5 it says that while they worked 'their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.' I have been greatly encouraged by the testimony about some of the elders here that I have already been exposed to that they are still willing to stoop to serve their Lord regardless of their position in the church (and this probably why they are serving in the role that they are in the church). I have been struck by how invested these men and their wives are in th grassroots ministries of the church discipling new believers, instructing parenting classes, leading small groups, being very diligent and intentional already in regards to what we would seek to do in Glasgow.

Sitting in for the worship practice in an auditorium that holds 2200 with a worship band and praising God for all His goodness and kindness, thanking Him for the gift of Jesus, so that I get to worship Him. The music has a Hillsongs United, Chris Tomlin, Martin Smith, Matt Redman vibe about it.

The kids are doing great. Still adjusting to sleeping in a different time zone. It's 6 am and I have just put Katie back to bed, Matthew seems like he will sleep right through tonight. People have been very kind and patient with them even when they are being a bit grumpy. Today we will goas a family to the 9am service. Alison is excited because they are starting with a version of O happy day with a choir- James 1 is the text for the Bible teaching, James MacDonald the teaching pastor is in California receiving treatment for prostate cancer and preaching at a church there (which although called Harvest is not part of the family of churches we are spending time with) which is then recorded and viewed at the service. You can watch what we heard here.
