Reflection 3- BiblicalTruth
Having spent time in both Ephesians and Titus the value of Biblical truth cannot be understated. From Paul's prayer for the Ephesians for deepening knowledge of God, mining the unsearchable riches of Christ, to grasping the dimensions of Christ's love for them to Paul's instructions to Titus to straighten out that left unfinished by establishing a firm basis of truth built on a pattern of sounf doctrine- Biblical Truth matters.
A couple of years ago we though about the idea that if we look after the depth in our relationship with God then God will look after the breadth of our impact for His glory. Titus 1: 1 speaks about how the investment in the knowledge of the truth leads to godliness. Godliness is the necessary and obvious impact of truth upon our lives and our lives upon those around us. It has been a great joy for us to be reminded of God's grace and faithfulness to us in the provision of His Word which alone reveals the truth about Him and a great challenge to us to stand upon that truth in a world that is far from Him.
Reflection 4- the Church
We are immeasurably priveleged to be called the children, the family, the people of God and we should live with that clear sense of wonder informing our everyday lives of worship of our God, Father and King. We are called to exist, to borrow a term, 'as a display of God's glory.' In our teaching, our relationships, our attitudes the church is to mirror the character of God revealed to us through Jesus Christ for it is He who builds the church as Head of the church. Paul Tripp describes how 'our walk with God is a community project' and this is what we have been challenged to learn and grow in. We are called to fervently proclaim and defend the truth, faithfully love God and one another and fully rely upon God and His grace and not ourselves and our own resources in living for His glory.
